San Francisco Aid for Animals (SFAfA) was founded in 2011 by four San Francisco veterinarians who were alarmed by the number of pets being euthanized or surrendered due to their owner’s inability to pay for veterinary care. In 2012, after raising money through donations, they began providing grants to San Francisco area veterinarians to help pet guardians pay for their pet’s urgent, treatable medical conditions.
Since 2012 we have distributed over $310K in funds to pay for over $1.2M in veterinary bills and helped save over 480 pets who were otherwise facing euthanasia or surrender.
San Francisco Aid for Animals is an all-volunteer organization and is a fiscally sponsored project of Community Initiatives a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization in San Francisco.
